OpenSyria is edited by Levant analyst Tony Badran, who has been covering news about Syrian political groups and activists through his previous blog, Syria Monitor. OpenSyria aims to serve as one-stop hub for information and news about Syrian groups and individuals who oppose the monopoly on power held by Bashar el-Assad’s regime. OpenSyria takes no position on the groups or individuals covered on the site. Its purpose is merely to organize and facilitate access to publicly available releases, statements, news stories and articles in one place. OpenSyria does not publish its own proprietary content, nor is a forum for Tony Badran to express his opinions – for that he has his blog AcrosstheBay and the media.
Tony Badran launched OpenSyria with assistance from the Center for Liberty in the Middle East (www.mideastliberty.org), where he is a research fellow. None of the groups or individual activists profiled in OpenSyria are affiliated with the Center for Liberty in the Middle East unless explicitly noted.
